My team was involved in acquisition, feasibility studies, building construction, valuations, disposal of surplus properties and sale under lease-back, management of high rise commercial; and development of residential and rural residential subdivisions.

Career Highlights

  • Principal negotiator in achieving agreements of approximately $70 million worth of Wellington City Council’s ground leases for possible sale.
  • Managed in-house valuations of the Wellington City Council portfolio to the satisfaction of Audit New Zealand. Negotiating major projects such as:
    • Purchase of Airport land for Clearwater Project
    • Sale & Development of Midland on the Park, (now Mobil on the Park)
    • St James Theatre - purchase for the refurbishment plus a property exchange to enable the Royal New Zealand Ballet to be housed as part of the development
    • Restoration of the Old BNZ, Lambton Quay
    • Acquisition and development of “Umbrella Park” Cuba Street.
  • Developed and implemented strategy for disposal of properties owned by Golden Bay Cement Company Limited as part of the closure of the Tarakohe cement works
  • Project management of Fletcher Challenge House, Wellington from feasibility study through construction and occupation.
  • Acquisition of properties, feasibility studies and preparation of contract documentation to Board level reporting for total redevelopment of Johnsonville Shopping Centre. Project did not proceed due to the October 1987 “crash”.
  • Assessment of the property portfolios of companies under consideration for merger or takeover and rationalisation of portfolios as appropriate.
  • Project management of refurbishment of the Wright Stephenson horse stables, Dunedin (over 110 years old) and integration with a multi-storey office building constructed around them. The project won an award from the Historic Places Trust.
